I was going to make my own but I’m glad I purchased this instead. The wood is attractive, smooth and the dimensions are very consistent and accurate. I read some reviews that complained about smell so I was quick to evaluate for odors. I didn’t notice any strong odors with tropical wood version. There is a faint smell from areas where small natural knot holes were filled with wood putty if you hold it to your nose. I expect that will subside and the knot fills were done nicely from what I can see (it is absolutely normal to have knot holes filled in a natural wood product like this). There are some blocks that are not a single wood source (they are glued together like a butcher block). I don’t see this as a problem, that is a common wood-working technique. Overall, I’m glad I didn’t waste my time cutting and sanding my own wood. The product is appropriately priced for the quality. The carrying bag seems to be appropriately durable also.

Youth Ministry Purchase
I just bought this game for my youth group to play when we have activity times together. It was easy to set up and the pieces didn’t have rough edges or anything that would cut skin. I really appreciate the carrying bag because I don’t always have a lot of storage space for all my games and equipment. I don’t have to worry about finding a place for all of my pieces and don’t have to worry about misplacing some because they’re kept together in a bag. We haven’t used the game variations with the numbered blocks yet but I’m curious to see how that works with my students. Including the white board for keeping score was a nice addition to the package. My students have played this already and enjoyed it. My children participated as well and so did some adults. It was easy enough to use and the blocks were easy enough to pull out that my 4 year old could play too. The weight of the blocks overall did make it more difficult in determining which blocks to pull because some of them don’t want to budge at all with the extra weight on top. This isn’t as big of an issue with the regular version of Jenga because the pieces are so small and light. We just had to make it so the students had the option of touching the blocks to determine which one to pull instead of keeping to the rule that you can only pull the one you’ve touched. This wasn’t a problem for us. Overall, it’s a good purchase and something my students will get use out of.

I find that the best way to play this particular Giant Jenga game is to create in interlooping system with all the #’s so that the game never ends. We are in fact still playing our game and it is right about 2 years and 1 month. The way to do this is to refer any rule number you get directly to a specific block that states you must knock over and reset the entire block system so technically if 1-7 state to refer to block 8 rule and block 8 rule is to knock over the set and restart than you are simply building and knocking over the set each time someone draws. It is most amusing and paining but addicting. The other way to play is to write your own rules on the bottom of each block and ignore the numbers. If you do so, might I suggest a few block rules such as “tickle the toes of the person to your right before you speak” or “Call the local fire department, tell them you’re having a fire garage sale and give them your address” or “write a letter to the nearest Knights Of Columbus explaining the finer inner workings of your Seventh Day Adventist cult and how you wish to utilize their space for religious revolt practices” and of course my favorite, “re-enact your favorite Jeff Goldblum scene from any of the Jurassic Park movies.”

We purchased this for our wedding – an outdoor game for guests to play. It was a big hit! We’ve also used it for backyard parties with adults and kids. Highly recommend.
