The IOGEAR GWU637 enables compatible Ethernet devices to connect to Wi-Fi, providing wireless access to any Ethernet-enabled device at home or in the office. Once configured simply connect an Ethernet cable from the GWU637 to your device.
Not Compatible with Enterprise Authentication or Mesh Networks — Designed to connect directly to a wireless router. Hotspots, repeaters, and access points are not guaranteed to function properly. This will not create a hotspot or a secondary network. Not compatible with open or hotel networks.
Maximize Transfer Bandwidth — Using dual antennas (2T2R), the adapter delivers data rates up to 300Mbps with sufficient bandwidth for faster file transfers, music downloads, video streaming, online gaming, and HD multimedia applications. The true bandwidth capability is limited by your internet bandwidth of 2.4 Ghz. This will not work with 5 Ghz networks.
Turn Legacy Gadgets, Printers (LAN), VOIP into High Speed Wi-Fi Enabled Devices — Older laptops, A/V receivers, network printers and other Ethernet only devices leave you at the mercy of a hardwired data connection. With IOGEAR’s Ethernet-2-WiFi Universal Wireless Adapter, you can breathe new life into your legacy electronics by giving them Wi-Fi or wireless bridge capability.
Compact Design, Maximum Versatility — Designed to be thinner and lighter to make applications clean and clutter free, the Ethernet-2-WiFi Adapter is 40% smaller than its predecessor, without having to sacrifice performance. The compact design gives you the freedom to place your home entertainment center practically anywhere and stay connected to your wireless network. Due to the compact design it is normal for the adapter to reach temperatures of approximately 122 degrees.
Powered by USB — No need for power from an outlet, this device is powered by a USB port giving you more freedom to place it anywhere. For instance, the prevalence of USB ports on TV sets allow for simple and fast connection of the Ethernet-2-WiFi Adapter to any USB enabled television using the included USB power cable.
Supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) — For easy, secure network connection with just a button press. If WPS isn’t available, use Fire Fox, Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (macOS).

    Does what it should.
Works just like it should, I had some difficulty setting up via web browser and customer service was fantastic. If you have one touch device adding capabilities on your router it’s a breeze.

    Perfect Mate For TiVo DVR’s
Initially when I obtained my Tivo Premier Series 4 DVR, I relied on the TiVo AGO100 WiFi to USB adapter. It was slow and became useless when streaming came onto the scene. Probably because it interfaces with a USB 2 port. I then upgraded the TiVo Internet service to utilize a Lincsys (Cisco) PLE500 power line Ethernet adapter. One adapter was connected to an Asus RT-N66 router via Ethernet and the other adapter connected to the Tivo also via Ethernet. Since I have two TiVo’s, a total of three power line adapters were needed. Eventually I noticed that the Lincsys PLE500 power line Ethernet adapters started slowing down after about three years in service. I then replaced them with spares I had on hand and with that the speed was restored. I not sure how long the PLE500’s would be available.I started to investigate WiFi to Ethernet adapters and tried a TP-Link RE105, it did not work very well, it kept interfering with the other devices on the network. It could be that it’s a range extender and there isn’t a way to disable it.It became very difficult to find a driverless WiFi to Ethernet adapter until I stumbled upon the IOGear GWU637. The setup was very easy, just plug it into the Ethernet port on the PC, follow the instructions to access your wireless network. Be sure to turn off the WiFi on the PC while configuring the GWU637. I use wireless MAC address filtering on my router for extra security and the GWU637 has the WiFi MAC address printed on the side of the device near the serial number, that’s a plus. After configuration, I then connected the device to the USB port for power and the Ethernet port on the TiVo Series 4 DVR. Next I checked the Settings > Network > View network status and Voilà it showed the Wired Ethernet adapter MAC ID. I then checked the Client List on the router it showed the GWU637 connected to the TiVo with max bars. Incidentally, the TiVo is about 75 feet from the router. That evening when I went to a streaming service, the selection process was faster and the show I selected streamed flawlessly.I tend to be very stingy giving a product 5 stars, but the IOGear GWU637 deserves it. I’m impressed!

Windows 11 users must use internet Explorer to setup
This took me much longer to setup because I was not using internet Explorer.Windows 11 users must use internet Explorer, not edge, chrome, or another browser. New firmware fixes this, but this should be addressed prior to shipping.

Unable to connect to popular WI-FI Router
Purchased GWU637 to connect an Ethernet-only device (through wireless) across a room to a D-Link DIR-890L tri-band router. The device could “see” the D-Link fine in the site survey (line of site, 50′ away within a commercial shop).Every attempt made to connect was fruitless. The device provides absolutely no diagnostics when it cannot connect. No logs, no feedback, nothing at all. I contacted support through email and provided details with hopes of receiving some troubleshooting help. I had a very disappointing experience. The screenshot sent in was lost it seems by their ticketing system (they never mentioned that despite my reference to it), they dismissed my router as unsupported because I referred to it an “access point”, and finally, they simply said this: “If it continues to state “NOT ACTIVE” then there could be some hardware incompatibility. “Again, I provided the brand and model of the wifi router and re-shared the screenshot with site survey results proving it visible. No further information was provided regarding what incompatibility they were referring to. The description of the device suggests it should connect to 2.4GHz networks with specific security protocol (such as AES/TKIP) support which were met by my router.Ironically, a customer satisfaction survey was sent today regarding the support experience associated with this device. I completed the survey and received an error message due to missing/incorrect SSL certificate on their own survey. I was unable to provide feedback and only wasted more of my time.My advice is to avoid this brand due to the lack of skilled support, the lack of care that surveys are broken, and most importantly the lack of available diagnostics to work a connectivity issue.

Would not trust to use 24/7 because it gets hot
Purchased as a last-ditch attempt to try and save a Sonos Symfonisk Picture Frame that Sonos managed to break via an update so that it would only work via Ethernet, but no longer via Wi-Fi. Genius, I thought, to use an external Wi-Fi adapter!Unfortunately, the reviews are accurate, that this thing gets uncomfortably hot to the point that I would not be comfortable leaving it plugged in all the time that would have been required for the Sonos. The web configuration is straight out of the mid-1990s. If I hadn’t been technically savvy in the 1990s there is no way that I could have figured this thing out today. This would have been more useful if it also operated as a USB Wi-Fi adapter. But it doesn’t, the USB is just for power. Lost opportunity and probably would have made configuration easier, and would have made the price more justifiable. Finally, for whatever reason, this workaround for the Sonos did not work, the Sonos would only function plugged into the Ethernet. Oh well. So nothing works. I tried.

It works but the documentation needs to thoroughly touch all aspects of setup, else non-technical users will think it does not work.
